Canetankerous LLC Walking Cane and Crutch Super Traction SafeTipTM Attachments Overview:

High traction tactical cane crutch tip

The Super Traction SafeTipTM   Model 1 is a one-piece design that slips onto a walking aid bottom end after the soft rubber tip has been temporarily pulled off.  Because the Model 1  embodies a sophisticated one-piece design, it is somewhat less expensive than the Model 2, which embodies a two-part design.

Be Warned:

The  Super Traction SafeTipTM   Model 1 may not provide a proper fit onto a “knobby” cane or a cane with a tapered bottom end.  For these walking canes, the Model 2 is a better choice.

The Model 1 does not work well on walking canes and crutches having a non-circular lower end cross-section. Lastly, though the Model 1 will slip over the end of walking canes and crutches with bottom ends that are a little more than 1 inch in diameter, there is little or no space left for a shock-absorbing hard rubber shim ... which should always be used.

High traction tactical cane crutch tip

The Super Traction SafeTipTM Model 2 embodies a two-piece design that clamps around the lower end of a walking cane or crutch.  The soft rubber tip can remain in place during Model 2 installation.  This feature is handy if the rubber tip is firmly stuck onto the walking cane or crutch lower end and thus, cannot be removed.

Because Model 2 embodies a two-piece design, it is a little more expensive than the Model 1. However, the Model 2 is somewhat more versatile than the Model 1, and will typically provide a good fit onto “knobby” and/or tapered walking cane and crutch bottom ends.

The Model 2 also works well on walking canes and crutches having a non-circular lower end cross-section.  In general, the Model 2 will fit a wide range of walking aid lower end diameters between 1.1 inches down to .75 inches.  When in doubt about which Super Traction SafeTipTM model to buy, the safe choice is the Model 2.

In any case, remember:  at least one hard rubber compression strip should be used ... and ... either model will fit smooth surface, non-tapered, circular cross-section walking canes and crutches having 3/4 to 1 inch diameter bottom ends.

Note:  When using the Model 2 with walking cane and crutches having non-circular bottom end cross-sections, the maximum cross-section dimension that will fit is 1 1/4 inches.

Shim-kit (SK-1):

The SK-1 shim-kit allows the Super Traction SafeTipTM Models 1 and 2 to be installed on walking aids having a wide variety of diameters, surface bumps and degree of taper.

In addition and importantly, the SK-1 shim-kit also acts as a stress and shock absorbing buffer between the Super Traction SafeTipTM connecting body and the walking aid shaft.

The SK-1 shim-kit consists of three separate, 2 inch by 3 inch hard rubber strips.  The strips have a thickness of 1/32, 1/16 and 1/8 inches.

These strips, either singly or in combination, will allow a good fit and firm connection between the Super Traction SafeTipTM connecting body and a walking cane or crutch shaft.  The hard rubber strips also distribute stress and accommodate various lumps and bumps on the cane or crutch surface.

The SK-1 shim-kit is included with the purchase of the Super Traction SafeTipTM Models 1 and 2.

Before making a purchase, please examine your walking cane or crutch and pay attention to the following information, which discusses potential installation problems!

If your cane has a cross-section that is not very round ... and/or has a cross-section dimension greater than 1.25 inches, neither the Model 1 or Model 2 will fit your cane.  Here is an example:

If your walking cane or crutch has significant taper near the end, the Super Traction SafeTipTM Model 1 will not fit your cane.  The Model 2, having four clamping screws, will work well. Here is an example:

If your cane or trekking pole has a diameter less than 1/2 inch, neither of the Super Traction SafeTipTM Models 1 and Model 2 attachments will fit.  Here is an example:

If your cane or crutch has an oval shape, the Super Traction SafeTipTM Model 2 will fit ... but ... the Model 1 probably will not.  Here is an example:

If your cane is made of wood and has a varnished surface, you will need to take extra care to use the rubber shims that are provided with the Super Traction SafeTipTM Models 1 and 2.  Otherwise, scratching of the varnish may occur.  Here is an example:
